Study Shows that Nearly Two-Thirds of American Young Adults are Unaware that 6 Million Jews were Killed in the Holocaust

A shocking study released September 16, 2020 by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany (Claims Conference), revealed that a majority of Americans aged 18-39 are disturbingly under-educated about the murder of six million Jews during the Holocaust.

Among its findings, the Claims Conference highlighted that “Nationally, there is a clear lack of awareness of key historical facts; 63 percent of all national survey respondents do not know that six million Jews were murdered and 36 percent thought that ‘two million or fewer Jews’ were killed during the Holocaust. Additionally, although there were more than 40,000 camps and ghettos in Europe during the Holocaust, 48 percent of national survey respondents cannot name a single one.”

The study pointed to Wisconsin as the highest scoring state regarding Holocaust education of young adults in America, however it is clear that HERC has a lot of work to do to continue making an impact. Click here to read full study.
