Stories with Survivors Shabbat

Join Hillel Milwaukee and the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC) for Stories with Survivors Shabbat in honor of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) on Friday, April 9 at 6 pm.

Students and Community Members are invited to join via Zoom to hear stories of survival and resistance from local Holocaust Survivors. Featured survivor speaker is Edith Pump.

Edith Herszenson Pump is the daughter of Mendel and Ellen (Chia) Herszenson. Her parents were forced to flee their homeland of Poland because of the Nazis. She was born while her parents were in hiding in Uzbekistan, an area of Asia with harsh living conditions, hardly a suitable place to raise a child. As a result of the Holocaust, Edith’s parents lost their own parents, their siblings, as well as their cousins.

Edith and her parents were the only family members to survive. After the War, she and her parents were transported to a D.P. Camp in Germany. There, at the D.P. Camp, is where her parents had two more children. Edith is both a child victim of the Holocaust and a survivor of it.

This is an incredible opportunity to hear first-hand from local Survivors and bear witness to and honor the survivors in order to preserve their legacy for future generations, as we say Never Again.
