The Righteous: A Play Reading & Discussion

The Righteous: A Play Reading & Discussion
April 27, 6:30 pm (CDT) | Virtual program | Hosted by Illinois Holocaust Museum

What would you do if you learned that your country was enacting a plan to annihilate an entire people? That is the gut-wrenching question faced by Eduard Schulte, a captain of German industry who was familiar with the Nazi High Command. Schulte’s identity was a closely guarded secret and his heroic act to attempt to stop the Holocaust was kept hidden for over forty years. The Righteous brings to light the remarkable and inspiring true story of Eduard Schulte.

Join Jeff Cohen, American playwright (The Righteous & The Soap Myth), Dr. Michael Berenbaum, renowned Holocaust scholar and Director, Sigi Ziering Institute of American Jewish University, and Kelley Szany, Vice President of Education and Exhibitions, Illinois Holocaust Museum, in conversation with Museum Vice President of the Board of Directors, Richard Salomon, for a thought-provoking discussion on the remarkable and poignant story of a man who risked his life and the lives of his family to stand up against evil, and the lessons his heroic actions teach for our world today.

Before our program, the audience is invited to view an on-demand virtual staged reading of The Righteous, conducted in August 2020 under the auspices of Temple Emanu-El’s Streicker Center, with Frank Wood (Tony Award winner), Johanna Day (3-time Tony Award nominee), Jessica Hecht (Emmy & Tony Award nominee, star of Friends), Denis O’Hare (Tony Award winner & 3-time Emmy Award nominee, star of True Blood & American Horror Story), Richard Kind (Tony Award nominee).
