Join the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center and the Lux Center for Catholic-Jewish Studies at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology for the Holocaust Study Institute (HSI) which includes:

–  A 14 week comprehensive course examining the historical and theological underpinnings of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust: January 19 – May 3, 2016

–  A trip to Israel to study at Yad Vashem, experiencing sites where religious faiths began and exploring modern Israel: June 12 – June 26, 2016

14 Week Comprehensive Course

Class Sessions held:

–  Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30pm

–  January 19 – May 3, 2016 (no classes on March 22 or April 26)

–  Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology (7335 S Highway 100 – Franklin, WI)

Course Fee: $145

–  Partial scholarships are available for educators, clergy, and students

Course Objectives:

–  For students to identify the historical and theological underpinnings of anti-Semitism that influenced Nazi ideology and led to the Holocaust

–  To help students understand the growth of anti-Judaism from early Christianity to its development as the seed bed of a virulent anti-Semitism in the 19th century and its manifestation in Nazi ideology and practice

–  Examine Jewish life in Europe before the Holocaust, the Nazi rise to power, and the beginning phases of the war against the Jews

–  Explore the development of the Final Solution and its implementation

–  Consider perspectives of resistance and rescue

–  Discuss the challenges of post-Holocaust theology and examine a variety of Holocaust education strategies

Trip to Israel

Travel Dates:  June 12 – June 26, 2016

Travel Cost:  $3,995 (includes round trip airfare from Chicago and all other expenses except tips and most lunches)

Travel Objectives:

–  Study and experience the history of the Holocaust in the preeminent museum of the world devoted to memorializing and explaining the Holocaust

–  Visit the Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv and spend a day at the Shalom Hartman Institute

–  Experience the modern State of Israel with all of its positive changes and complexities

–  Visit the actual places and learn about the events that shaped the Jewish and Christian faiths
