The Sidney & Nina Widell Annual Memorial Lecture: Tal Brody

From a Star of Intimidation to a Star of Victory: The story of the establishment of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club

Maccabi Tel Aviv is a synonym of words like victory, achievements and success, in Israeli sports and also thoughout Europe. The Club was established with the team colors of blue and white in 1932. In the early 1940s, The Club embraced the color yellow as an act of solidarity to wear the yellow Star of David on their clothes.

Tal Brody, nicknamed Mr. Basketball, is an American-Israeli former professional  basketball player. In the 1965 NBA Draft, Brody was selected 12th overall by the Baltimore Bullets (now the Washington Wizards). Brody chose to pass on pursuing an NBA career to instead play professionally in Israel where he would lead Maccabi Tel Aviv to a EuroLeague Championship in 1977.
