As a member of HERC’s Speakers Bureau Steven Baruch shares the experiences of his extended family in the Holocaust. Some family members escaped in the 1930s or later. Others spent the World War II years in concentration camps or in hiding. Steve shares his family’s experiences in order to perpetuate Holocaust remembrance and to assure that there are no future Holocausts.
Steven was born in Chicago where his family was part of the community of German Jews displaced from Germany during the Holocaust. He moved to Milwaukee with his wife Judy in 1967 and they raised their two children here. Steve’s professional life was focused on education, working for Milwaukee Public Schools for 32 years followed by 15 years as Director of the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the Education Program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. Since retiring, Steve has been involved in a variety of volunteer activities.
